Can You Lose Body Fat Without Losing Weight ?

Dear Editor,

I have a question. Can you lose body fat without losing weight. My activities consist of cleaning house, chasing my child, exercise 4 1hour, and eating very small meals. I lost 49lbs in 6 months and now I am not losing weight but inches around my waist and buttocks. I don't take any kind of diet pills but I do take super vitamin b complex

Dear Ona,

Losing 49 pounds in 6 month is a great accomplishments. Generally after 6 months, you hit a plateau where you either stop losing weight or you don't lose as much. At this point, consider measuring your body fat percentage instead.  Anything below  30% is good and less than 25% is even better for most women.

You are doing all the right things so keep it up. Don't fall back into old habits but concentrate on reducing percentage of body fat rather than weight.  Because of your exercise, you are probably maintaining your muscle mass.  If you do light weight lifting, you will increase your muscle mass even more and reduce overall body fat.

However, based on your busy schedule, just continue your routine because many people strive for your routine but never get there. Keep it up,  the weight loss will eventually start to come off again but keeping your routine as a life-style is most important.
