Is it Possible to Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days?

I heard about this diet that claims you can lose 30 lbs in 30 days. Is that possible? I really need to lose a lot of pounds but I don’t need the frustration of trying another diet that doesn’t work. If this diet does work, what should I do?

Ellen

Dear Ellen,

Even if you stop eating for 30 days, you probably wouldn’t lose 30 lbs and you certainly need to eat every day to function. A more realistic approach is to strive to lose 1 to 2 lbs per week for 15 to 17 weeks.  This means you need to reduce intake to around 1300 calories per day. Men would reduce intake to 1700 calories per day.

Eat frequent but small meals and take 25 minute fast pace walks every day. A combination of diet exercise is the best way to lose 30 pounds. Also, drink no less than 64 ounces of water to flush the waste and fat from your body.

Your diet should consist of vegetables, some fruits and lean meats. You can always use a protein shake as a meal replacement but you should strive to eat a lean meat with 1 or 2 vegetables.

Eliminate all bleach, enriched or white flour from your diet and reduce the amount of sugar intake. Use sugar substitute such as Splenda, and don’t drink regular soda, which is just another form of liquid candy.
